The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust
“The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust provides holidays, day visits and Christmas parties at their Cheshire base for children with terminal illnesses, disabilities and social disadvantages from all over the North West.
I’ve been proud to support this fantastic charity for many years, donating my Man of the Match payments, prizes for auctions and presents at Christmas. I’ve also spent time at the Adventure Farm meeting the children, which has always been a pleasure and an honour.
The opportunities the charity provides change the lives of thousands of children each year. The range of needs of the children visiting their beautiful Adventure Farm is vast, no two weeks are the same. One week they may have a boisterous group of 20 children from a deprived area escaping their inner-city lives surrounded by drugs and violence, the next 12 children with complex medical needs, sensory impairments and educational needs who cannot access mainstream leisure facilities due to their physical or behavioural challenges.
This could be followed by a group of 16 Young Carers who live very grown up lives, helping to perform domestic duties, personal care or provide emotional support for a parent or sibling, resulting in social isolation and a lack of social skills. All too often, they also support children who are victims of neglect or abuse who need to feel safe, valued and loved.
Each year the charity aims to help in the region of 3,000 children. To do this they must raise £1million. I’m so pleased to nominate CAFT as one of my charities for my Testimonial Year. You can find out more about their work and how you could get involved by visiting their website www.caft.co.uk or call 01565 830 053.”
